Araglen Free Range Eggs
I’ve always loved living in the country and 21 years ago when I had 60 hens I used to give away the surplus eggs to my friends and neighbours. There’s nothing to compare to a Free Range egg and my friends convinced me to try my hand at selling to the local shops, so I increased my flock to 400 and gave it a go. Within 3 years I had 3 houses and over 3000 hens which today have grown to between 6000 and 7000 birds.
A family run business, registered with the Department of Agriculture and following EU guidelines, all production and packing is carried out on the farm. Apart from the grass the hens eat giving the yolk its rich colour, the feed used is completely natural with no additives, chemicals or colourings. Yes, its’ hard work but when I open the house doors in the mornings and watch 1000’s of hens burst out into the fields to roam at their leisure, its’ really something to see, very hard to describe but for me it makes it all worth-while.
